53rd Three Or More - Tuesday...Another work in progress...

Welcome to the the 53rd 'Three Or More' - Tuesday!!!

I have another project that is only partly complete at this point but will remain in this state until after Christmas.

I'm in the process of transforming a former bedroom into a guestroom.

The 'Before'...

And now the current state of the project

with a lighter color scheme...

A wall quote for our guests ...

A newly acquired dresser from Kmarts Country Living collection...

A black armoire that had to leave the basement,
a ship from Hobby Lobby at 40% off and a small electric fireplace for ambiance.

Little by little it is coming together...

Additional changes that I'm planning include new dark laminate flooring,
removal of the hideous popcorn ceilings and the addition of
bead board wallpaper about 52" up the walls.

But...
It'll be 'next' year before all of this is done.
At least I have a start and a peaceful places for our guests
over the Holidays.

Now, what do you have to share for 'Three Or More' Tuesday?

Kitchen remodel Step 3

Today the wonderful Susan @Between Naps On The Porch
is hosting Metamorphosis Monday.

Some progress was made last week with the kitchen remodel.
All of the windows have been replaced and all of the outside
work and siding has been completed.
We replaced the casement corner windows with shorter double hung
windows to accommodate the cabinets and counter tops that will be
in this area.

The gas line to the future cook top has been run,
the old floor was removed, and the cabinets arrived Friday afternoon.
Our whole garage is packed with boxes.

And our contractor was able to put all of the tall cabinets in on the
refrigerator wall.

I'm thrilled with seeing things come together day by day.
But Friday we were told we wouldn't get our counter tops until
Dec. 23 which will mean we won't have a sink, cook top or the upper
cabinets around the bay window installed.
I could have cried but not much I can do about it.
Maybe some miracle will make the counter fabricator show up
a day early and all will turn out well anyway.
After struggeling over three weeks with being sick
I finally went to the doctor and found out I have
bronchitis. Hopefully the 10 days of antibiatics will do
the trick.

The ghost of Christmas table past....

HELP!!!
I'm going through major Christmas decorating withdraw
since my kitchen is a construction area and the dining room
looks like a bomb hit while holding all of the boxes with the kitchen items.

I've had some relief because I've been living vigorously through all of your blogs
as you are starting your Holiday decorating.
So I thought I'd share my past Christmas tablescapes to inject
just a little of the Holiday spirit on my blog.

*Sigh*
Now I will return to reality and look at the dust and chaos at my house *grin*

52nd Three Or More Tuesday - Suggestions needed!

Welcome to the the 52nd 'Three Or More' - Tuesday!!!

I apologize ahead of time for jumping back and forth between different
decorating projects but that is actually how they are currently
being completed. One day a little work on this and the next day a little on that.

Today I'm back in the basement and the corner that holds our 'game nook'.

I showed you the bowl of wooden dice that is the centerpiece
on the table when no games are being played.

Since I'm not a minimalist by any means,
that little bowl just won't do and
I found a couple of inspirational pictures for wall decor.

One idea is to look for some vintage or vintage looking
wooden game boards to use as wall art.
I found the following photo at www.jollieprimitives.com

This idea also looks like fun,
to create a piece of wall art that looks like scrabble letters.
I actually have the wood and paint to do this and
FREE is always good in my book.
I found this photo on www.craftcuts.com

How do you like these ideas and do you have any other suggestions that may work?

Kitchen remodel step 2...

Today the wonderful Susan @Between Naps On The Porch
is hosting Metamorphosis Monday.

A couple weeks back I told you that we decided to move
forward with our kitchen remodel and last weekend we
completed the demolition of the old kitchen.
Doing this part ourselves saved us a lot of money.

In a way this is a reversed Met Monday because
looking at the after photos makes me wonder what
we have we gotten ourselves into?!?

Here are the 'Before demo' photos...

And now the 'After demo' photos...
The cabinets have been removed and the refrigerator
and stove will be removed shortly.
The 'non-load bearing' wall and doorway between the old kitchen
and old dining room is gone.
The old tile was also removed, which revealed some crumbling drywall
from an old leak.

The carpet has been pulled out of the old dining room and I pulled
hundreds of staples out of the sub floor after removing the padding.
It will still be a galley type of space but sooooo much bigger.

But looking at these pictures is pretty scary.
I must have lost my mind, ripping up a working kitchen right before the Holidays.
Ugghh!

Thankfully the contractor will be here
the beginning of the week and I hope that seeing daily progress,
will ease my mind a bit.

51st Three Or More - Tuesday - Your basement ?'s answered

Welcome to the the 51st 'Three Or More' - Tuesday!!!

I originally had a different post scheduled for today,
but after receiving several questions on my Met Monday basement post
I thought it would be appropriate to answer 'Three Or More' of your
questions today.

Did you do the work or have it done?

We didn't do the concrete overlay ourselves
but instead hired a local contractor.

What product did you use?

The contractor is a local distributor for Granicrete
and that is the product he used.

So did you just lay concrete OVER the linoleum then?

The concrete overlay went directly over the old tile.
It can go over many different sub base materials
as long as it's solid and sound.

How was it done?

It was a two day process.
The first day a 1/4" coat of Granicrete was applied
over the previous tile floor. The next day the contractor
taped off the grout lines and created the tile pattern.
He then applied a second layer of the concrete product and
created the texture by hand. On larger jobs they use sometimes stamps.
They had many different options available and since they tape
the grout lines you can decide on the tile size and patterns.
The possibilities are endless.
After the second coat dried the contractor pulled up the tape
from the grout lines and then applied the stain with spray bottles.
He used about 6 different colors to create this look.
It was amazing to watch the stain bleed with some added sprays of water
and create a stone look.
When the stain was dry, a sealer was applied over the whole surface
and after an hour we were able to move the furniture into the space.

Do you mind sharing what it cost?

It was $8.50 a square foot.
Not the most budget friendly flooring choice,
but being able to have this done in two days,
without the added labor of removing the old flooring
and in the middle of all the other projects we have going on,
it was well worth it.

Also, when we went to the contractors show room it was amazing
to see how versatile this product is.
It can be used in showers as walls or floors.
It can go over existing laminate or tile counter tops
and they can create a counter tops that look like granite in any color
you can imagine.
We also saw a fireplace surround with a stacked stone look,
various vanity tops, pool decks, driveways, porches, walkways
along with all the different indoor and outdoor flooring options.

I sound like a billboard here,
but I'm not receiving anything for blogging about this.
I simply wanted to share my experience with you
while I answered your questions during 'Three Or More' - Tuesday.
*Smile*

Met Monday - Corner of the basement

Today the wonderful Susan @Between Naps On The Porch
is hosting Metamorphosis Monday.

I mentioned a little over a week ago that we were having
a concrete overlay done over some old, ugly tile in a corner of our basement.

It was solid but definitely from the 80's and UGLY ...

The concrete overlay was done right over the top of the old tile
and it was a two day process.
We LOVE how it turned out!!!

This was the view from the laundry room before...

And the view from the laundry room after we moved the
kitchen corner bench, table and chairs down here to become our new game area.

This was the view from the tv room before...

and after...

I still have some decorating to do and will
update you on that soon.
