The Laundry Room Project is done!!!

Jeez...It took long enough to complete this project and to let you all see the results. I apologize for leaving everyone in suspense.

I took inspiration for this space from Rhoda at Southern Hospitality, I admired the pictures I had seen of her laundry room for a long time. My space isn't nearly as perfect as hers but it is such a grand improvement from what I started with and I love it. Another blog I visit regularly and draw inspiration from is the Nesting Place. The Nesters creativity is amazing and without her I wouldn't have added any fabric to the room.

I'm sorry but I failed to take 'Before' pictures, hopefully a description of what I started with will work. This space is in the back of a finished basement. It had dark 70's paneling that had many large holes where the former owner tried to access a variation of pipes. The dropped ceiling tiles were scraped, bowed and broken, the flooring was basic concrete with old stained carpet remnants pieced together.

The space is small approx. 6' x 10' and the hot water tank, furnace and front loading washer and dryer take up the majority of space. It has been challenging to photograph, please click on each picture for a larger version of it.
No more suspense - Here is my new laundry room:

Other then the space under the stairs (hidden now by the floor to ceiling curtain) for all my Christmas decorations it had no storage.

After clearing the room out I started with replacing some of the broken paneling and painting it all a bright apple green color. Then the vinyl plank flooring went in and I loved how easy this floor was to put down, it only took a couple of hours.

Next the old ceiling tiles were replaced and the old kitchen cupboards, I had saved from the Garage project, got a white coat of paint and new handles. I placed an old little three drawer dresser from my shed next to the utility sink and it still needs a new coat of paint and new knobs. It will hold all of my gift wrapping supplies. I re-tiled the back splash above the utility sink and put more flooring on an old piece of wood that with a couple of brackets on the wall and two pieces of 2x2's became my new laundry folding table. Then I started to pull together different decorating items from around the house.

The curtains are what the Nester would call 'Mistreatments'. I am not good at sewing and everything is held together with fabric glue or hemming tape. Beside the window 'mistreatment' the other curtains are hung on little cup hooks with curtain clips. Under the table i hide buckets and laundry baskets. The large area hidden by the floor to ceiling curtain conceals all of my Christmas decorations and an old pantry with odds and ends type of items.

So that is it - I really enjoy this space now, it went from dark and dreary to bright and happy. What do you think?

Have a wonderful day,

Hi Tam,
I found your link on Rhoda's blog, I think this is my first time here on your blog.

You've done a great job with the laundry room! I love the color and all your little assessories!

I think I have a bird house just like the one with the green roof.
Hope you have a wonderful day,

Hi! I found you thru Rhoda's Blog and since I loved her laundry room, thought I'd check your's out too. Laundry rooms for me have always been strictly functional and the thought of decorating it...well, that was frivolous. Thanks for sharing your pics and showing me that every room can be beautiful!

Don't you love that Rhoda tagged you. We all love what you have done. YEA FOR YOU!!! Are you doing the happy dance? You should be SO proud of you. As someone who doesn't really have any window treatments, this was an inspiration.:)

this looks fab! How wonderful it must be to walk into this room, even if the task isn't always fun. I can't believe how much space you have. My laundry room is small. As in, if I stand in the middle with arms outstrethced to either side, I touch walls! (LOL). At least it's inside & the machines fit :0).
I hope you enjoy your day.
Cheers!
