Today is Met Monday hosted by the fabulous
Susan @Between Naps On The Porch.
With that title you may be wondering if I've lost my mind.
I can't be the only one that has fixtures in her home that she despises???
The voice of reason tells you
"Yeah, you hate it but there is nothing wrong with it
and buying another to please your sense of style would be silly"
and your inner decorator starts chanting "I hope it breaks, I hope it breaks".
Well, maybe some of you can now relate and will understand
why I have been hoping for some of the fixtures in my
Master Bathroom to break.
When we moved into this home
all the bathrooms came with bright, shiny, brass fixtures. Yuck!
Most of them seemed to be fairly new and in good shape
but they were certainly not my taste or to be completely honest
I just can't stand them!!!
The voice of reason allowed me to change them out in the powder room,
because this space only had a few pieces of the offensive shiny stuff.
Now our powder room fashions lovely oil rubbed bronze fixtures that I adore.
However the Master Bath would be a more expensive transformation
and that darn voice a reason gave me a resounding "NO",
and so I hoped...
that something would break.
I wished one of the annoying towel holders would break,
I even tried using them as pull up bars to speed up the process
but to my dismay they resisted and showed that they were pretty sturdy.
No matter how often the toilet paper holder was used,
that also wouldn't show any sign of weakness.
It seemed hopeless and I felt 'doomed' to have to continue glaring
at the shiny ugliness.
But things always happened when you least expect them,
and one day I went to the sink to wash my hands and
Ooooooppppsss I had the hot water handle in my hand.
My mind was racing and on the inside I jumped for JOY
but on the outside all that escaped my lips was "Uh Oh".
After all, one has to keep their composure,
in order to not alert the family units that this mishap
is an appreciated event.
Soooooo, you know what's coming right? RIGHT!
Of course I immediately ran...okay I drove...to get a new faucet
and NO of course I didn't buy one in the same shiny brass, Silly!
I didn't care if that would make sense to most people,
I was on a mission, I had hoped for some accidental, mishap type
of intervention since 2005.
I picked out a new, lovely, reasonably priced, brushed nickel faucet.

This was the start to my Master Bathroom transformation.
Next I went to TJ Maxx and searched for matching towel bars,
hooks, toilet paper holder and a stylish toilet brush keeper for good measure.

I must have looked like a mad woman searching that whole shelf top to bottom,
mumbling to myself that I'd better find matching pieces NOW!!!
My manic mumblings must have terrified all of the displayed items because
all of a sudden all of it came together and I had exactly what I was looking for.

I gathered and paid for all of my treasures and made another run
to Lowe's for a new light fixture for over the mirror, some new door handles and
new pulls for the vanity cabinet.

Next I B-lined it home and started the removal of the old
and installation of the new.
Now the addition of mirror molding is on my wish list,
which would make this side of the bathroom just perfect in my eyes,
but I'm still in process of convincing the 'bathroom police' that mirror
molding is a must have.
But this is where my mini 1/2 Met comes to a screeching halt.
See, the next step will be pricey.
I'll have to change out the bathtub/shower pluming fixtures
(maybe I can break that handle too?)
and the shiny, brass framed shower doors
(a lot more difficult unless I 'accidentally' bend the track or break the glass hmmm).
I DREAM of frame less shower doors. Sigh!
For now I'll enjoy my tiny Met,
save some more money and hope that I can make this
a 100% Met sometime in a year or so.
But of course I know how resourceful all of you wonderful, creative souls are.
Do any of you have any ideas what to do with these
ugly, shiny, brass shower doors
until I can afford what I truly want?????

I totally understand how you feel! I'm right there with you. I changed out he faucet in my kitchen from shiny brass to nickel. Now I'm just looking around and curling my lips at all the brass knobs and pulls. It really adds up when you start counting how many it takes though.
Tam, I've got those shiny brass fixtures in my circa 1980's house too! Love your new hardward and fixtures!
Catchy title to your post! :o) You are in good company my friend. :o) In a perfect world I would have those big, front loading washer/dryer pair. But...lo and behold...I don't. :o)
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
Ps. My fixtures are a mixture of brass and silver ... yep ... I got it bad! :o)
I totally understand your plight & have the same issue in several rooms! Love your satin nickle fixtures.
I know that I've read something about ?painting? the metal frame of a shower door, but can't remember where. Try googling it!
I want to have the upstairs hall bathroom gutted - we're keepiing the toilet - but the rest can go! It's on the list of course.... :o{
Great post! I love all your choices!
Our house had those shiny brass fixtures in it. Slowly, room by room, I've replaced them. I still have the hallway fixtures to go, and they'll be completely gone.

What an amusing post. One broken handle and you take off like a rocket! You go girl. I would try paint on those shiny shower doors.
Great mini redo you have done there

Cute title and a very humorous post. The brushed nickel looks much better.

come by for a visit.
Your new fixtures are all just stunning. I do know of someone that painted all those unsightly brass moldings around the shower and they turned out fabulous. You need to buy a scotch brite product from the automotive store and rub them well to buff them up. This step is crucial. Then she used a silver low sheen spray paint. Very thin coats and they turned out just fabulous. She even spray painted the faucet handles and surrounds. They've lasted about 3 yrs. now. I did the same, only I sprayed mine in the Oiled Ant. Bronze color. They look fabulous. Mine have also lasted in perfect condition for 2 yrs. now. Good luck. It's certainly worth the time and effort. Hugs, Marty
I am glad you got what you wished for, breaking the fixture, lol. Beautiful replacements!...Christine
All the new fixtures look beautiful and fresh...

Everything comes to those who wait.........your new fixtures are great, don't you love TJ's?
Maggie
Love the new fixtures-- the color and finish is great!!
I am always ready for something new or old. Love to change and those are some beauties.
Will be back for the giveaway and 3 or more tomorrow.
Monday Blessings ;-)
Be very SPECIFIC about what you hope breaks--the only new and decent faucet in my house broke last week and had to be replaced :)I'll be watching for an answer to the shower question!
Love your new hardware. They look great. Can't wait till you break some more so we can see the rest!

Love your new look... It turned out great...

Oh Tam, I so know the feeling, although right now we're renting. But, I do often wish that both my washer and dryer would die at the same time. Of course, they're only 3 years old so I have no hope of that happening. But dammit, I want one of those nifty steam dryers so I never have to iron. Wait. Who am I kidding? I don't iron as it is!
I Love all the things you chose, and OMG, I was literally LOL at your using the towel bar for pull-ups!
Now, how can one break a shower stall and make it seem like an accident?
Wait! You're not married! You have no one to answer to! Just go buy the one you want!
Justine :o )
Hi Tam! I love what you picked out! I am living with "builders Fixtures" till something "breaks". Cause I'm always telling hubby "If it isn't broke don't fix it!" (sometimes you gotta eat your own words)
Hope you are having a great week!
Rainey
